Hey all - just bought a 2002 xc70 w/77k miles. Only issue I know of was a rear lock assembly wasn't working, but found a used one and should have that taken care of soon. I'm a bit nervous seeing all the issues that can affect the xc70's, but will hope for the best. Thanks to all you moderators who share their expertise w/the rest of us. Cheers!

Welcome, Wammer.
If you're here, you've already begun good maintenance and vigilance. Don't worry about the problems you see here -- people don't come here to post "my Volvo works fine!". If they did, you'd see Volvos with problems are the minority.

My volvo works fine. I just squeaked in under the wire and had my ETM replaced by Volvo. My ten years are up in May. Lucky me.

Not too worried about the car, actually - like you said, usually you only hear the issues - there's nothing to report if everything is working fine. It's nice to know that should something go wrong, there's a community of Volvo aficionados to troubleshoot.
I should also mention that I had an '86 240 wagon w/207k miles on the clock before my wife made me get rid of it. Something about the exhaust funneling back inside or something...I never noticed it. Perhaps I overlooked a few minor flaws, as I loved that car.
Thanks for the welcome! Greg
