S70 TRIP COMPUTER SWITCHES TO READING OF...

Post by ineedhelp »

I have a 2000 Volvo S70. My trip computer area does the following very frequently:

the word "dISC" appears on the read-out (where the time is usually displayed) and all 6 function lights become black squares". Eventually it disappears and returns to normal.

My dealer has checked error codes and can't find anything. They said they would have to see it happen. It happens quite a bit but with no predictability. It is happening more and more now.

It happened driving home from my service appointment yesterday.

I have a top of the line extended warranty and would like to fix this problem.

Have you ever heard of this?

It happens to me, but only for 1/10 of a second or so when I'm changing modes from Miles to Avg. Fuel Consumption for example. It just flashes on.

How long does "dISC" stay for you?

Thanks for your response. It happened rarely 2 or 3 years ago and it was just a flash, as you have described. Now the trip computer changes as described in my initial post at various times: upon ignition (sometimes) and just while driving. The word "dISC" appears for as long as 20 minutes or for merely a few. Changing modes does nothing. It comes and goes at random and can stay for any length of time.

It's a dirty/faulty selector switch. I suspect some contact cleaner would remedy the problem, if the pot is not fully sealed. I can always return my display to normal by just lightly tapping the selector knob...

Good luck!

I have the same problem as you described with my 2000 V70. It started about a year ago only briefly when changing mode but now it looks likes it is more frequent. It is now happening by itself and last a little longer.

Did you get a resolution for yours?

thanks

I have a similar situation. It flashes briefly and then it goes away. However, it has never stayed longer than 5 seconds. It has always happened that way since the last 5 years i have owned the car.

thanks.

"Disc" means "Disconnected." Somehow the information that the dash is suppose to get isn't getting to it...a short somewhere. It is probably intermittent and dependent on vibrations.

I'd try the contact cleaner on the switch and if that doesn't work I'd pick up a used switch cheap on ebay. Real easy to swap it out...
