Can anybody point me to a schematic or diagram for the EVAP emissions plumbing for a '96 850. I've looked all over to no evail.

There are two different versions of it, it depends on your emissions code. The emission code is the 8th digit in your VIN.
Your VIN should begin with YV1LS55X where X is the code number or YV1LW55X if you have a wagon.
Post the code back and I will see what I can dig up for you in VADIS.

Thanks again. On a related note, can somebody explain the algorithms for both the purge valve and shut-off valve operation? For example:
1. Purge valve. When unenergized is it normally open or normally closed? Ditto for shut-off valve.
2. Under what conditions are the purge valve and/or shut-off valves opened and closed?
3. What's the shut-off valve for? To intake fresh air into the cannister?

Thanks again. Here is a link that explains things more in depth. The previous info failed to mention the "fuel tank pressure sensor", which is what the ECU monitors during the diagnostic.

Basically this is the test as I understand it.
1. The ECU closes the cannister shutoff valve and opens the purge valve, drawing a vacuum on the fuel system. Vacuum can't be too large as all gas caps have a vacuum breaker in them.
2. The ECU then closes the purge valve, thereby sealing the system.
3. The ECU uses the "fuel tank pressure sensor" to monitor the vacuum for decay rate.
A. If insufficient vacuum could be drawn initially then it records a "gross" or large leak.
B. If an initial sufficient vacuum can be drawn, but it decays too rapidly then there is a "small" leak.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but I have a 96 850 sedan non-turbo w/ a P0450 DTC, which is a fuel pressure sensor sensor error. From my searching, I've found little about this part, and haven't found it in VADIS either. I'd like to get a little info on the sensor, as well as the wiring, location of the connectors, and the placement of the sensor so that I could attempt to diagnose it myself before having to take it into a dealer, as I'm guessing it'll be quite an expensive repair.
