power bleeding '05 XC70 AWD

Post by wz-dc »

My brakes are spongy feeling, and with 65,000 miles on the car I'm going to flush and bleed the brake system. In the past I have simply bled the brakes the old fashioned way. After reading the posts on this site I have purchased a power motive bleeder. I have not seen in the various posts I've read how much pressure to use. How much pressure should I pump it up to? I have also read elsewhere that for ABS cars the wheel closest to the ABS controller should be bled first. Any comments on that as well would be much appreciated..... :D
Thanks, Dave

I pump my Motive up to about 20lbs and just leave it...it will go down some but you won't need to repump it do the job. Much more than this and I understand it could damage the seals.

What a great product!!! That was the easiest bleed and flush of a brake system that I could imagine. As was suggested here, I used it just to pressurize the master cylinder, and added fluid as necessary when the level dropped. Got a lot more garbage out than I would have expected; the best part is that the pedal feel is so much better!!! It has never been this good, even when new...
