temperature guage

i have a v40 td 1998
temperature guage registers 5pm altho thermostat and sensor are working...does not go higher

i also lose coolant

help

yes the fan is workin, engine temperature normal

Once warmed up the gauge should read right EXACTLY in the middle...for it to read 5PM it's low- stuck open. Therefore, the thermostat needs replacing.
