S80 transmission noises - buzzing

Post by lous80 »

Hi My S80/2.9 //90k miles...has an intermittant buzzing noise almost like a pump noise from the transmission. It runs great and I get no check light or codes. From what i read here it seems that i am about to fail. It also seems that it has done this for a number of years, so i have been letting it go. Would a fluid change help??.....thanks, LOU

It might. Or the transmission might already be too far gone. Some people say that if you change it the new fluid will break loose gunk in the trans and cause it to fail earlier. I don't agree with this opinion. If you are afraid of that happening, you might want to do a partial fluid change by just dropping the pan and changing the filter, then refilling. That changes about 1/2 the fluid because the rest is in the torque converter and innards of the trans. Then you could drive a few thousand miles and do it again. That should get most of the gunk out and you will have 75% new fluid at that point. If you want to do it, here is a how-to: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 11&t=20278
.

hello lous80,

check this link out as well, you may want to do the flush by this method.
http://www.volvo-forums.com/t26151-tran ... change.htm

all you need is 9/16in vinyl tube...
be carefull on what type of fluid you put in...
