What is so wrong with 99 S80?

Post by Ihmemies »

I'm thinking of buying an used Volvo S80 with 2,4l fuel engine, only 51tmiles or 81tkm, whatever you prefer. It feels like a very good car but several sites (including this) say that a '99 S80 is POS? I'd like to know why since I've always believed that Volvos are quality cars (like my friend's '82 340 or another's '92 850, both driven over 300tkm or 186tmiles).

As the owner of a 99 s80, I'm curious about what kind of answers you'll get to your question. We've had our s80 for almost a year and, although we've had what I would call a little "bad luck" (fuel pump and MAF sensor) it seems to be a pretty nice car.

I was a little troubled when I read a few of these posts that specifically label the 99 s80 as a problem car - kind of gives me the heeby-jeebies.

My dad's '99 T6 has been fine, apart from a surging under full throttle that I can feel and he can't because he drives it like a grandmother :).

I have a 99 s80 and feel the same way. Just joined the forum. See my post. We were both duped. Never again.
