1999 S80 T6 Shift Boot Replacement

I replaced the shift boot in my S80 with an after market one from ebay. I could not find a way to remove the shift knob, so I removed the entire shifter. I still could not figure out how to get the shifter out without having to take it all apart, so I opted on making a small rip right along the sewing line, enough to make it fit over the knob. Then I sew it back together. Well now here is the problem after replacing the shifter back, I'm getting a sevice transmission message. I tried the pressing the trip button procedure and the message will not go away. The tranny has been working fine since my post about the fluid and filter change. No more winding noises 5000 miles later.

Wow. Sorry you did all that work. I think you can remove the knob from the shifter by lifting up the boot first, then releasing some locks on the knob, then pulling the knob straight up off the shifter. Anyway, did you try disconnecting the battery negative lead for 30 minutes to clear the message?
