Need Help Important on S40 3yr old PLEASE Urgent!!

First of all, Thanks to all who respond to this urgent cry for help.

I have a situation. My 3yr old S40 wouldn't start. Usually, when i put the car key into the key hole and turn 1 notch, the lights on the dashboard will falsh up. tonight however, was not the case...no lights on my dashboard came up till I turn the key to the second notch..why is this so?
When I try to further turn the key to turn the engine on, nothing happens! Its as though I am disbarred from even cranking the car to life!
Please, If there is anyone out there who is able to advise me to slove my problem...I will gladly appreciate your help. I am currently stuck at my friens place right now and would appreciate it if I can get some advice asap.

Check fuses. Check battery cables.

Check Battery, Fuses, Cables... Or that the Alarm is not set. Try using the spare key incase your key's immoboliser chip is dead. Also make sure you don't have any other car keys or transmitting devices near the key you are using to start the car.
