1997 850 NA Rear Shock Bolt

Hello Everyone,

I was replacing the rear shocks on my NA 850 and stupidly I did not realize that there was a cap to cover up the threads at the end of the bolt. I did spray the bolt, but it did not get to those threads because the cap was still on. Anyway, the result was the bolt breaking in half and now I am stuck not knowing what to do.
Is there any other solution than replacing the whole arm (I think its the trailing arm but not positive)?

Ouch,

Realistically the solution is to replace the delta link. We had another member that suffered the same fate and he had the old bolt drilled out and a new bolt machined and installed but I think his conclusion was that changing the link would have been cheaper and easier.

Junk yard time. The good news is that they are not that tough to change.

You are going to need a 4 wheel alignment after you make the repair - the rear links have adjustable toe in.

Sorry to here about your headache. It is times like this when you wish you just spent the extra money and had someone else replace your rear shocks. Good luck with the fix.

those rear shocks can be a piece of cake or they can become a bad nightmare..

i had the same experience the stud broke off partialy, but enough that i got in a nightmare to drill out the old bolt and refiting an grade 8 steel same stud size...i kept the delta arm cause its is in a great shape ...although sounds simple its a major head acke to drill out and i had acces to a lift thank god, many months later the repair is still holding on strong but it was a nightmare, keep in mind that i had acces to a lift and secured the new stud with a inside bolt that was mig welded to keep it from coming loose, without the professional equipement i could not had made it, its your choice depending on the budget and work you want to put in

to answer fcp i had an alignement done by a pro and they still managed to break a stud...keep in mind these are old cars..nothing is failproof...
