I know it's my fault. I should have made sure everything was accounted for before we sowed up the patient. Anyone have a clue as to what they may be or where they go?

94 850 Help me identify these parts
Three years ago my nephew and I replaced the evaporator. Last night I mentioned an annoying squeak I was tracking down in the dash. He hands me these parts and says they were "leftover" from the evaporator job.
He meant to tell me about it at the time. Honest!
I know it's my fault. I should have made sure everything was accounted for before we sowed up the patient. Anyone have a clue as to what they may be or where they go?

I haven't done the job, but they look like retention clips to me. Maybe to hold two plastic parts together?

I looked it up in VADIS and there are 13 of the little ones and 10 of the big ones in the system. Unfortunately it doesn't show where they go. My guess is they clip on over a lip between two plastic sections that come together. I'd look at the outside of the plastic housing of the evaporator and see if there are some on there already. Then look for some "flat spots" where the missing ones might go, or scratches on the plastic where they were removed from.

That is exactly what they are, they hold the climate unit housing together and there is a bunch of them. Some are quite difficult to get to to both remove and re-install.
Depending on where they were left off you may be OK without them.

Thanks guys. I had a feeling that's what the silver doohickeys were. The black one concerns me more. It looks like there's a screw supposed to go through there. Since I've been driving the car for 3 years without them and nothing's seemingly wrong, i may just have to live with it until i have to work on that part of the car again.
One question, I'm not familiar with VADIS. What is that?

VADIS is "Volvo Aftermarket Diagnostic and Information System."
It's basically a service & repair manual and parts catalog in electronic form (CD/DVD) that Volvo dealerships used to use (they went to VIDA a few years ago).
Info it includes: Bulletins, Design & Function, Diagnostic Information, General Information, Parts Catalog/Information, Repair & Installation Instructions, Special Tools, Specifications, Visual Identification.
It's a very good tool for indies and DIY'ers.

There are a number of sellers on eBay. They don't call it VADIS since it is bootlegged. They refer to it as repair manuals and then list gobs of cars - typically through 2004.
It is also rumored to be floating around on BitTorrent but it is a huge program and will likely take days to download.

Thanks again!
Hey, funny coincidence (since you mentioned Darrell Waltrip) when I checked them out for a new glove box latch like you suggested, I realized by looking at their web site that they were the nice guys who fixed a problem, at no charge, i had with my steering wheel during a visit with my sister in Nashville. It wasn't a big deal problem but I can't get my local dealer service guys to laugh at me for free.
