PCV Valve Replacement for 06 S40

Post by CheriBomb »

I'm sorry if this is already covered. I tried searching, but didn't find anything...could be I'm just not great at searching these message boards. I have a 2006 S40 with almost 80k miles. I bought it with a little over 50k miles 18 mos. ago. I love the car, but I'm getting overwhelmed with expensive repairs this summer - A/C repairs, etc. I've spent $1,500 so far this summer. Latest is check engine light keeps coming on. Mechanic got a "lean" code, did smoke check found a leak in the hose to crank case, replaced it. Still getting check engine light. DId another smoke check, nothing, thought it could be the sensor, but now thinks it's either upgrades or PCV valve. Says if it's PCV valve that it's a big job. I'd like to know where the valve is located. My husband has changed his on his 93 Mustang Cobra and says it's no big deal to change on that car, but being unfamiliar with Volvos we're a little out of our element. Also, apparently I've not been getting synthetic oil at my changes, but I was scheduling changes based on owner's manual. Seems this may have contributed to the problem - if it's the valve. Geez! If I have to pay very much more in repairs I'm going to be forced to trade this car. HELP please!

The PCV on a Volvo is generally referd to as a Flame trap.
I have atttached the instructions for 04 and newer. This is the first electronically heated one I have seen.

Would this cause a exhaust smell in the cabin and also would this cover the 2005 non turbo?
