lights?

Post by coffeeguzzler »

I have a 1995 Volvo 850 T5R sedan, and lately have had something strange happening with the lights; I turn on the headlights, and then the lights for the odometer/speedometer go out within a few seconds, and my gear shifter light goes out, too. Once in a blue moon, they all come on again. Fuse looks OK, and I replaced the gear shifter bulb about 2 years ago.
Any ideas?

the light behind our clock/temp in the dash was out for the longest time until someone smashed the dashboard and it came on, when i shut off car and started it the next time, the light was out,

for your problem, are you running any stereo equipment that may be high draw from your battery? i've seen this problem when using high draw stereo equipment without caps

No, I'm not using any special audio equipment; standard issue speakers, and an in-dash single cd player (SC-800 something; 815?)
I doubt that it's the bulbs, because they would have had to all die at the same time, then come back briefly, then die simultaneously (kind of like the Red Sox used to do.) While this happens, the headlights remain on - I just can't see how fast I'm going at night, or what gear I'm in, or the RPMs on the tach.

i would definetly say its a wiring problem then , it may be too complex and may have to take it to a service center, i would anyways

I had the same sort of problem with my old 764t4. There is a master ground behind the dash for many of the cabin ground connections. It was loose.
