Weird brake noises/feel

I have been hearing this weird noise when braking while getting off of the highway. It does not happen all the time and is only when slowing down from highway speeds(60+ mph). The noise/feeling is almost like a grinding noise that I kinda feel in the pedal. I am not sure how else to describe this. It's not real loud but still noticeable. It's almost like something is loose. I checked out the brakes and everything looks good. Pads have plenty of meat left on them, no scoring in the rotors, everything is tight. There is no pulsation in the pedal like the rotors are warped.

Any suggestions?

Do you have drilled or slotted rotors? My drilled rotors have a funny sound / feel under heavy braking but they stop really well.

I had something similar - the noise seemed worse when coming to a slow stop on a downward incline after the brakes were fully wamed - in my case, it was the shims on the rear pads that were installed upside down. I cleaned and regreased the backing plates and shims, and the sound went away. The Volvo shims are meant to be installed with the 'cut out' portion of the shim at the bottom of the brake pad; they also have a directional arrow stamped in them - the directional arrow should face the direction of forward wheel travel.

I only use Volvo original brake parts (pads, rotors, and Volvo white synthetic grease) to avoid noise issues, on the advice of all the experts here on the site.

At the Volvo dealership parts counter, part #1161688, called PTFE Silicone Grease.

I used Volvo pads in the rear, but don't know what is up front. I have a feeling if I go to Volvo pads in the front, the noise will disappear. Since the pads still have life in them, I will deal with the noise for now.
