Remote Transmission Filter

Post by velorider »

My other car is a Ford Ranger and in those forums remote transmission filters are very popular. These are basically oil filters inlined between the transmission and cooler, see http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G ... mage=large

I'm going to do a transmission flush soon, 90K. Not sure if this is the first or not so I'm worried about the stories about doing flushes and trans go bad shortly afterwards. Plus I hear these filters are much better then the screen filters found inside the transmission.

Any thought on these for the Volvo, in particular for the S60 2.4T.

Bob Is The Oil Guy is a great site, you should check it out if you get a chance. These guys are like the connoisseurs of fluids. I posted over there one time with a similar question about my 760 with 117,000 at the time. They suggested a magnafine filter, along with a sequence of drain and fills (my dilemma is in one or more topics floating around on the board) which is a pretty good unit from the sounds of it. If it gets clogged from sediment, the bypass valve kicks on and still allows flow, it's a cool little unit. I bought one from http://www.emergingent.com/subpage1Magnefine.htm, I dealt with a fellow Darrell, pleasant to work with, never got around to installing that baby in the trans line though, I anticipated the steel tubing to be a PITA :P . The beauty of it though is that I can use it for the power steering pump as well if needed.

But yes, I'd say it's definitely not a bad idea!
