2001 volvo s40 coolant leaking badly

Post by catdaddy27 »

Hello,
I have a 2001 s40 and when I crank it up coolant leaks out of it badly but it seems to be from under my engine area. Any ideas or suggestions? Also was trying to change my thermostat but the two screws are stripped, any suggestions? Thanks!

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

There are several hoses that would give the appearance of a leak under the engine. None of them are under the engine so you should be able to see where the water is coming from.

Are the screws themselves stripped or is it the holes they go into? Is it possible that this is where the water is leaking if they have been partially released?

Bill.

found out that some idiot put stop leak in the engine before i bought it. I had to get a timing change, water pump replacement, drive belt replacement, and a new thermostat= $1100. And its still leaking plus Im unsure if they actually change my thermostat due to the same stripped screws being on it. I did a tuneup on it also with all volvo parts and I still have a misfire on cylinder 2. so there is still leaking because it ran hot the other day and found out it was totally out of coolant. Oh yeah and I also need a battery which will cost an additional $170. Any advice on the above problems?
