Removing the connector from turn signal wiring ('94 850)

One of the signal bulb holders in my '94 850 is all crusty and broken and melty. Some of the melty bits include the prongs in the socket on the bulb holder. I'm about to order a new one but I'd like to order the connector, too, since the melty parts have pretty much killed the original one.

I'm sure there must be a trick, but I don't know how to remove the wires from the connector without clipping the wires. How can I get it off?

Welcome to MVS,

Sadly there is no alternative to cutting and splicing to replace the connector. When I must make such a splice I solder the connection and use heat shrink insulation to cover the repair. Crimp style butt splices can be used but they are subject to corrosion and are less reliable in my opinion.

If you must use the crimp connectors, make sure you fill them with some silicon to help keep them from corroding.
