Hey guys,
Anyone sporting a 1990 240DL runing good, looking good, but smelling a little fumes inside and not getting good gas mileage. Computer has a PO 113 code stored/ rich exhaust. Do you know anything about the MAF Sensor?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
How did you obtain the fault code? P-codes usually refer to cars made late 1995 onwards with the On-Board Diagnostic 11 (OBD11). These codes are read with a scanner from a data link connector. The '90 240 uses OBD1 and codes are read without a scanner from a box which is mounted behind the left strut tower. There is a thread in the announcement section of this forum which has the instructions for the use of the OBD in the 240.
P0113 refers to the intake air temperature sensor reading high or low. The Volvo code 1-1-3 for the 240 is a fuel injector code. Neither code relates to the Mass AirFlow (MAF) sensor.
The MAF sensor is used to find out the mass of air entering a fuel-injected engine. The air mass information is necessary for the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to balance and deliver the correct fuel mass to the engine. The 240 uses a hot wire MAF which is self cleaning. Occasionally it doesn't clean properly and the readings become inaccurate. It can be cleaned with a proprietary cleaner available from most accessory shops.
Bill.
