Volvo Repair Database Rear wheel drive 740 rims fit on V70?

Post by MikeQ »

Hi; I just joined the forum but go back a long way with Volvo's. I've owned everything from a 144, P1800 coupe right up to my latest purchase, a 2006 V70 2.5T.

I have a set of 16" windmill rims from my old 740. Would these fit on my 2006 V70? I'm not sure if the bolt pattern is the same or if there is clearance for the brake callipers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mike in Ottawa, Canada

The bolt pattern is the same, but the offset is not. The will stick out about 20mm to far. You can put FWD/AWD rims on a RWD car with spacers, just not the other way around.

Thanks very much for the information.

When you say that they will stick out 20mm too far, do you mean that you cannot properly tighten the nuts when the rim is placed on the studs?

Thanks, Mike

No, the offset is 20mm less on the 740 rims. When you bolt them up, the rim will stick out about 20mm more and more then likely will hit the wheel well.

Yes you can.

RWD wheels are cheap and a lot of people use them to mount snow tires. Yes there is a difference in offset but you'll hardly notice it. Your 2006 has bigger brakes so make sure the diameter is big enough to clear.
Ambitious but rubbish

I tried the HYDRA 740 wheels on my 850n/a, and was pretty sure they were rubbing just a tad on the wheel well, plastic and fender. The 20mm is noticeable, I had to take them off and replace them with the original rims I had on when I bought the car.
