95 850 GLT Ignition switch problems
How common are switch problems? I am having problem with starting my 850. I first pulled out the starter and checked it over and cleaned it out, when it checked out fine I moved to the wiring diagrams. The car has a new PNP switch, so the next stop was the Alarm Relay. I thought that it was my problem when I found it and pulled it apart. I tried to clean the contacts in question, but no luck they failed the ohm test. So I soldered a jumper across the relay and renstalled it as a test. Low and behold the car started a few times. This is when I found the Ignition switch problem. When the car would not start once again, in frustaion I put a LITTLE extra twist to the key. This is when I noticed that if it is twisted and moved to the start postion the car would start. In many starts it would go with the extra twist, but with out the twist it would not. I should say that when I say it would not I mean 'no movement out of the starter at all not even a click from the solinoid'. I have a new one on order, I just have never seen a post in referance to to this problem. As a new owner of my first Volvo I have found this site a great resorce. Thanks for all of your posts.
