Hi! I have a 1998 AWD V70, but it's NOT an XC: I posted here, because I assume the two were pretty much the same, for that year.
I've only had it since Halloween. It has been making a single banging sound that seems to be coming from the rear end, near the end of turns. For example, I live at the corner of 2 streets: when I swing wide off of one street onto my street, that bang usually happens just as I hit the driveway. It occurs at other times, too, usually near the end of a turn. It might come from one side or the other, but since it's unpredictable, it's hard to know when to listen for it. I was hoping it was the driveshaft support bearing, but that looks like it's in pretty good shape.
Note: in case this has any bearing on the diagnosis, the car shakes a bit around 35mph, then at around 65mph, a symptom that didn't change when the snows were installed.
Thanks for your help!
