S80 2000 P0011 Variable timing non-turbo

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 2000 P0011 Variable timing non-turbo

Post by bob.albino »

Runs rough, occasional stall, pulls code P0011.

Is there a procedure to follow to determine where in the variable timing system the fault lies? Replacing the solenoid is dead simple but $200 wasted if that's not the problem. If I remove the solenoid will that tell me anything?

Thanks in advance for replies.

I looked up the code and it says timing over advanced. Have a shop check the timing.

According to VADIS, the timing defaults to advanced if there is a problem with the solenoid. My guess is your solenoid is bad. I'm not sure if there is any testing procedure to do prior to replacement. The car would idle rough but run well at higher rpms/under load.

Is there a solenoid or are you talking about the camshaft sensor?
