01 S60 2.4t Luke warm heat

Post by Old Blue 66 »

Just as the thread name says, the best heat I can get in the Chicago 10 degree weather is luke warm at best. Sitting at stop light, all air goes cold. The blower works fine. Its just the temp of the air its pushing when the outside temp is very cold.

Suggestions???

Sounds like your t-stat is stuck open, which you can tell if the temp wont stay at the half way and drops at higher speed.

The heat temp or the engine temp??

The heat temp increases at high speed. Goes to nothing once stopped.

Its the engine temp. Another way to tell is that the top radiator hose should be nice and hot after driving for a few miles regardless outside temp. BTW, its always good idea to replace ECT every time replace t-stat.

Its hot, but I cant tell if its off the heat off the engine or from coolant flowing through.

I am experiancing the change in engine temp as you described.

What is the ECT?

ECT is engine coolant temp sensor, which usually has similar lifespan as the coolant thermostat and cheap ($20).

So just go get your t-stat and ECT replaced you'll be warm again.

Wow I have the same problem. I bought the parts, but How do I install them? Where are they located? I'm handy so I should be able to do it.
Thanks
