1999 V70

I`ve been reading about the idle problems with the V70`s,i have a '99 V70 75000mi right after ford starting the redesign. about a 1000 mi ago I noticed the idle beginning to dip upon slowing, and recovered at the instance of stopping. I checked the internet and cleaned the mass air sensor then checked for leaks in the vacumn line; no change, the next popular suggestion at the site was to change the temperature sensor, near the coolant water line? the logic goes like this, a bad sensor caused the the computer to incorrectly change the gas air mix due to bad temp info. There were also people talking (internet) about a computer glitch. this program was to disengage the transmission upon slowing/stopping then reengage when beginning to press the accelerator. Is this like the old plymouth transmission ( hydro-somthing or other). I`m not sure I go with this. i just noticed somthing about the idle. the other day i slipped the transmission into neutral, as i slowed, to prevent the rpm dip; the idle did the exact same thing as i came to a stop, and immediately recovered upon stopping, even though the drive was in neutral. this, i thing, may bring the computer glitch pack into the picture. Any thoughts????

It's likely the ETM starting to go out... My car does the exact same thing, as have many others. Idle is often jumpy, RPM will dip down when stopping followed by immediate rebound. In the later stages of the failure, the car may want to completely stall when coming to a stop.

The stop-neutral was a feature in the later years 01-02 I think. The transmission does not do that in a 99 or 2000 XC. But we do suffer from the ETM problem unfortunately still...

There is a whole forum here dedicated to the issue. "Don's ETM Room".
