FActory Battery Replacement

Post by radmangto »

HI All .... my wife has a 2005 V70 bought new in May 2005. We live in East Tennessee and was wondering about life span of the original factory battery and what experience you may have on longivity. I suspect I am approaching that grey zone of it's life span.

Also, are there any specific brand of battery that is better than others when replacement is needed. I'm not affraid to spend a few extra $$ for good quality and the knowledge it will function well for my bride .... !!

Regards,

Volvo batteries are absolute crap. As are Honda ones, actually. Our 3-yr old Accord's battery can barely crank it on really cold mornings. The car itself just doesn't particularly like the cold. If you're getting slow cranking, I'd suggest replacing it.

I personally like Interstate batteries...the one in my car has been in there for a little over 5 years, and probably needs to be replaced as my door switch keeps killing it, but it still cranks just fine when it's not drained by the interior lights. The one in my Saab was over 7, and still worked just fine to the end of its life.

Drop by Advance or any auto parts store and have them do a battery/alternator test. If your cranking amps are below 50% of the rated battery specs, you'll need to look at getting a new one soon. When they stop holding a charge, they become very unpredictable.

Deka is right here in nashville and they make an exact fit AGM. I love the additional power and no need for the vent .

Hello, FYI: There are two sizes of battery for our cars. You can see two holes for the battery hold down clip. Do a search for the proper procedure (key position etc.) for battery installation. I had never heard of such a thing. It's simple. Kira

Also remember your radio will have to be recoded in order for it to work when replacing your battery.

Thank you all for your reply's and comments. As to the radio reset comment, I had read that in my manual and called the local Knoxville Volvo service and they assured me that was not necessary for the 2005 V70. This was in regard to a security code that would be needed if the radio was stolen, etc. and tried to be reused or battery replaced.

Is there a "size" or battery "code" that would identify what battery group is for the '05 V70 ..??
Thanks,

radman

Group 47 or 48. 48's will fit with very little effort, and offer more CCA.
