Hi guys,
I'm new here but could use some help....
I'm in the process of replacing my belts, a/c, p/s and alternator, but cant figure out for the life of me how to untension these damn belts. Any advice or pointers? Pics/Diagrams would be even better!
Thanks in advance.

If you're just trying to remove them, just snipping them with a pair of garden cutters works quite well. They're much easier to get on than off (which is a good thing).

haha, im trying to save one actually, and i need to replace them as well, which i doubt can be done while theres tension? if im wrong feel free to tell me so
EDIT:reading is a good thing, if i can replace them easier than taking them off, is there need to adjust the tension. i suppose i could go buy the extra one and just cut em off if i can slip the other ones on no problem.

Using the diagram in the attached as a reference:
Slacken, but don't take out, bolt #15.
Do the same with bolt #7.
The alternator should now move to allow you to get the belts off. If it doesn't back off bolt #18 until the alternator moves far enough to get them off.
It is advisable to use two new belts as the older one will be stretched and you may not get the correct tension.
To tension the new belts pull or push the alternator until the belts are tight. Tighten bolts #15 & #7 whilst holding the tension. Check the tension at the mid point of the longest belt run with moderate thumb pressure. The belt should deflect between 0.2" and 0.4". If you need more tension turn in bolt #18 until it is tight, slightly slacken bolt #15 and turn #18 until you get the correct tension. Retighten #15.

hey thanks for that. ive managed to get a new belt on from the crankshaft to my alternator/fan. that being said, the belt that is giving me hell is the a/c-crankshaft belt. ive loosened everything like i did on the p/s unit and alternator to get some slack. except with the a/c unit, after loosening the bolts i think i need to, still, it wont budge.
any ideas?

are those on the bottom of the a/c unit? cause if so i loosened the front one, however i didnt loosen the back(socket cant fit back there). I bet that that was it, but wasnt certain enough to try and figure out how to loosen it.
that and its covered with assorted fluids

haha! well....rigth after my last reply i assumed thats what you were talking about, so i loosened w/e those two mirrored bolts were at the bottom and eureka. it created enough wiggle to slip the belt on.
thanks for the input guys, the baby is alive and purrin again.
