'05-'07 V70R (6 speed or auto)???

Post by chrisbruck »

I'm interested in getting an '05-'07 V70R. Haven't driven one yet but own an '02 S80. Any opinions on getting a manual vs. auto? I'm leaning towards a manual but know the auto mates better with the turbo engine. I also have a Miata and am totally spoiled by the 5 speed tranny in it. Anything else shifts like a cardboard stick in the mud.

Is one more reliable than the other? Please offer your opinions.

An expensive clutch set-up .
I work at a medium sized Volvo dealer, we've seen a few clutches needing to be replaced, not due to normal wear but too rough of treatment. There is a built in torque soak up built in to the set up, for a good/normal driver, no problem, but for beating on, not so good.
The auto's pretty bullet proof, from my experience so far. Again we don't see alot. Remember, 06 and 07 has a different auto trans, 6 speed instead of 5.
My vote is an 06 or 07 auto, I currently have two older R's and auto is the only way, for a daily driver.
