Instrument Cluster gone out.

Post by michaeldevault »

Here's the skinny...

I have a 1992 Volvo 940GL that I *love*. The speedometer hasn't been working for months and, luckily, I discovered a matching Volvo at a local scrapyard. So I hotfooted it over, got the instrument panel, installed it and...same thing.

Well, as I was reinstalling the *original* instrument panel, something went haywire and now, the entire panel is dead -- ish. When the car is on, the lights come on. The indicator lights also seem to function. The tach, the spedo, the fuel and temp gauges, kaput.

Duplicated the same with the new instrument panel.

To further complicate it, whenever I disengage the overdrive function (the little button on the gear shift) the upshift indicator light comes on, the temp gauge works, and when I turn it off, it goes out again and the temp gauge falls back off.

I think I must have blown an inline fuse or mucked up a relay somewhere. Any of you guys have any idea about where to even begin to start running down this problem?
