heater core?

hello all, i just bought a 99 v70 glt with 120k miles. on my way home it was raining and the windshield and all windows developed heavy fog, especially with the defrost on. with the heat on i could smell antifreeze and had to continously wipe the windshield with a cloth in order to see through the windshield. does this sound like a leaking heater core? if so, is it a tough replacement? i have a 1990-98 repair manual that explains a hefty process just to get to the heater core. any ideas and walkthroughs would be greatly appreciated. thank you

It sure sounds like the heater core to me. It can be messy to change but it really isn't that expensive of a part and it isn't that tough to change.

Heater core's are Very easy on these cars and the job only takes 2 hours. A heater core on a Chevy Blazer took me for 12 last fall.

thank you for the replies. i forgot to mention that the coolant in the overflow tank is about a half inch over the max line and the floor doesnt appear to be wet. could having too much coolant in the system cause the symtoms?

Having to much coolant normally does not cause this kind of issue but if would not hurt to take a turkey baster and suck some of that extra coolant out of the tank.

turns out it was the heater core. the dealer swapped it for free. thank you
