Whats up fellas? Im over on the Ram forum with my truck, but my gf has an 03 s60 2.4 nonT that shes wanting to put a little money into. The driving lights suck and shes wanting some HIDs like mine, so I have a few questions
Do you need a special harness for the volvo? The Dodges flash/flicker without relays or cancelers, so I was wondering if you needed them on your cars. Is it plug and play w/o a lamp out signal? Also, which size bulb is the low? (yall can answer it easier than me searching all over)
Also, I pulled an s80 woodgrain shifter knob for the auto tranny. How do you get the old one out and the new one in?
A few more ?s if you know anything about it. The strip over her door is gone to hell. Plastic peeling, black spots all over it. Scrubbing it will get the black off for a day or two, whats the fix for this? getting it painted? I
And her car has recently became a bit sluggish. If feels like driving with the W button on, but its not. No accel, slower than heck. Once youre up to speed its okay, but if you have the throttle down it will pulsate. Just surging under a load, which makes me think spark plugs maybe?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks ahead of time, I know yall like pics of the newbies but I dont have any pics of her car on my comp.
HID question...Weird Surge

Can't help you on the headlights. On the shifter, if you've got the one where you can see the metal rod protruding from the gear selector box you have to wedge a small screwdriver, bone tool or something similar on each side of the locking collar on the bottom of the knob and yank straight up. If your shifter has the boot wedge a small screwdriver on the left side of the knob down into the locking collar and pry it forward. This will unlock the collar, then as with the other one yank upward. They take some force to come off so be careful not to knock off your rear view mirror. To put the new one on, seat it in the proper position and give it a good smack downward with your hand or something that won't mar the knob. For what its worth, I have removed the shifters with the boot without doing anything with the locking collar, just grab and go, but doing it this way may damage the collar, I don't know.
On the car being sluggish, I'd start with plugs, cleaning the maf and cleaning the throttle body. All relatively simple and cheap. You might have someone pull the codes on the car as well, you may need to find a Volvo specific shop or the dealer for this. I would also drain & refill the trans or flush it via the cooler lines if you don't know when its been done. There are plenty of topics on here about that and your car will only use fluid from the dealer, Mobil 3309 (which you will have to order most likely) or Toyota T-IV fluid available at any Toyota dealer. Don't put dexron or any other fluid in this car.
In regards to he strip over the door, I am assuming you are talking about the molding in the gutter channel that runs from front to back. I know some years had problems with the windshield molding peeling and maybe this one to. Probably repainting is your only option or you might check with the dealer and see if you can buy a new piece pre-painted, might be cheaper in the long run.

Hmm okay, i just didnt want to screw up her gear shifter. I just pulled super hard to get the one off the s80. And hers has the alum rod, no boot. After taking the one off the pick n pull I tried to reinstall it (to see if I had broken it or something) and couldnt get it back on. Maybe I didnt hit it hard enough
I was going to change the plugs and clean the MAF sensor this weekend. We will see if it helps. I hope it does.
The gutter trim is what i am talking about. I will take a pic later and post it, but it looks like CRAP.
I saw all that about getting the tranny flushed and needing a specific fluid. I would do a drain/fill cycle but I think with 80k+ miles it would be better to get a flush? Thanks for your help!
