crankcase ventilation

Post by jokikeke »

I'm wondering if my non turbo 2.4l engine (V70 2002) has a clogged PCV system. I've heard I should feel a slight vacuum through the dipstick when the engine is running. The pressure feels neutral at the dipstick or the oil filler cap. I haven't noticed any problems yet with the performance of the motor or any significant oil leaks.

Grab a small slip of paper or something and hold it over the hole (a gas station receipt works quite nicely) - it should suck in slightly. If it does nothing, or blows outwards, the PCV's on its way to getting clogged.

I cleaned my whole system, but it doesn't really have the negative pressure it should, but at least it got rid of the smoke coming out of it, so I really don't care to mess with that thing again *shakes fist*

Well mine definitely has no vacuum but also no positive pressure. I'm now thinking of trying to clean it or replace parts but I think I have to remove the intake manifold to get access. Not looking forward to doing that. thanks

At this point, you're fine waiting for a nice, warm spring weekend to dig in there and take it apart

The hardest part on mine wasn't the intake manifold but the cursed PTC nipple, but if yours is a non-turbo, you don't have to deal with that part of the system.
