Bad start contol unit

Bad start contol unit

I have a 2005 S40 AWD. The key will not release. This might be due to a bad start control unit. has anyone had this problem? is it covered under warranty?

I know this is very late for a post but I figured many people on here have this question. The answer is yes it is very common and no it won't be covered under the factory warranty, not for your 05 at least as it is out of warranty. If you had an extended warranty that may be covered, but each is different and cover different things so you have to check with yours. Again, this is very common and the parts sells for about $140, there is no software needed, its plug and play.
