Transmission hiccup on a 2004 Volvo XC70?

Post by ericro »

Hello,

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

For a couple weeks now I've been noticing some problems with the shifting, usually more apparent when the car is cold. It is an automatic transmission, but it seems to have a hiccup while shifting from gears 1 to 2, and more noticeably from gears 2 to 3. As it usually happens when it is cold, it was hard to reproduce for my mechanic. They did perform a transmission flush, which helped but I still notice it when driving.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they found to be the problem.

I had a hickup at a certain speed (not shifting) and injector cleaner and new plugs cured it. It wasn't a transmission problem at all but a power problem.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I had done a little bit more searching online and started reading more and more about software updates. So I called my Volvo dealership and discussed it. Apparently my car was missing several updates and one related directly to the transmission problem. Once the update was applied everything started working properly again.

I have now been more curious what other software updates I may be missing though.

Hello, Bring your car's VIN to the dealer and ask. I assume that info is in a national data base. Since you mention it, I'm going to ask a Volvo dealer far from home if there is a record of my most recent update and if there are any new ones. Kira
