It seems from searching that volvo has discontinued the old dipstick design (on a 98 V70 T5), and to replace the dipstick, one would also have to replace the tube. Have any of you done this? How much of a pain in the arse is it to replace the tube as well? Any how-to's?
Thanks
Oil Dipstick (and tube) replacement

It's not to much trouble- there's an o-ring at the bottom and the whole tube slides out and you slide the new one in. My contention is why spend all of that money. Take your old dipstick in to the dealer and ask for them to bring out all of their 850 and S/V/XC (first gen) dipsticks. That's what I did and found one the right length.

but if u do change it there is 1 12mm bolt facing downwards under the front of the intake manifold. it can be gotten with a short rachet and socket from the throttle body side.

Thanks for the replies guys. The dealership by my house isn't very helpful, and they said that they don't stock dipsticks usually, so there's no way I could compare.
From the sound of it, there is only 1 bolt to contend with (by the intake manifold), and that's easily removed by a short ratchet?
Thanks again.

That is pretty much it - the bolt is on the underside of the intake manifold and it threads in upwards as I recall. Stick a catch pan under dipstick to catch anything that leaks out it shouldn't be much. From the sound of it, there is only 1 bolt to contend with (by the intake manifold), and that's easily removed by a short ratchet?

I have to do this as well; change the tube from my parts car into the new one. The new car's dipstick tube was rusty, bad. And now it has quite a bit of condensation build up after a drive.
I'm hoping it's because of that O-ring at the bottom of the tube ( which I have a new one of ), and the PCV needing changing. Could both those things alone cause a sweaty dipstick tube?

Short trips, car sitting without being run, bad seal at the bottom.
I just got a stick from the jy. I think FCP carries them as well.

Cool, hopefully a new O-ring and my other cars dipstick and tube will fix the issue.
As well as the PCV.
PS: We don't have junkyards around here, or anywhere I've lived. We can't just go look around and say "hey - I'll have that". Must be nice though
