'01 XC70 audio upgrade

Post by jwbenstead69 »

I'm considering adding an aftermarket stereo and speakers to my '01 XC70 to replace the factory cassette player/radio.

Two installers have warned of problems setting off the engine service light when changing out the stereo head unit. Any advice or experience with this?

I'm leaning towards replacing the front speakers, rear door speakers, and disconnecting the center speaker on the dash and the two little speakers way in back on the wagon door rather than invest in an amp and additional wiring install expense to keep them.

We listen at lower levels ourselves and turn the fade toward the front to keep from blasting the kids so mostly we're hearing the front door component speakers. Clarity and accuracy at moderate levels is important to us rather than heavy bass or high volume. The factory system sounds like mush.

Any advice on specific stereo head units, speakers or install layout for this wagon? Thanks.

hello, i would be careful when installing a new stereo in a car with wiring for the engine wired through the deck itself, i would honestly stay with the factory deck and just buy an XM sattelite reciever and spend my money that way rather than risk a sloppy install job and customizing prices, the way that the factory deck is shapped it would require a custom job that would be pricy and may not work.
