trip computer/intermittent wiper issues

I'm trying to get my 2001 V70 2.4T (165k miles) back in proper working order after some serious neglect. As such, I'm going down the list of things that are wrong with it, and trying to figure out how serious the issues are. Most of the things are pretty well documented -- my ETM is in the first couple stages of disrepair, so I figure that's going to get fixed first. But towards the bottom of the list, though, are two trivial (yet annoying) issues I haven't seen documented anywhere.

The first problem is that my trip computer has issues with consistency. When I turn the dial towards me to activate the display, let's say it goes to "MPG Instantaneous". Turn the dial one click towards me, "MPG Average". Okay, so far so good. Then, turn the dial again, "MPG Instantaneous". Again? "MPG Average. Again? "Miles to empty". Again? Off. So forth and so on. Instead of cycling through all the options one at a time, in order, it seems to stick to two or three readouts before turning off the display. If I want a particular readout, I have to twist the dial frantically before it actually gets to the one I want.

The second issue deals with the intermittent wipers. They work, but do so, er, intermittently. Basically, when they're set to intermittent they will run on a delay. But often times the delay is not at all related to the dial setting. Is this a relay issue, or something more serious?
