Central Locking & Key Fob

Post by guptash »

95' 850 GLT Wagon (non-turbo)

1. Central Locking: Front 4 door locks work fine. Problem is with the 5th door lock. When using the key in the front doors the 5th door lock does not operate. When using the key with the 5th door all the doors lock and unlock just the way they are supposed to. I need advice on what to look for as a problem, dealer wants to change the lock in the 5th door and charge about $250. I am very handy man and so need advice.

2. Key Fob: It unlocks all the doors but does not lock them. Battery is new and distance does not matter. Doors will not lock irrespective of the distance.

Advice on both the points above will help. What should I try for point 2 the key fob.

If the 5th door lock motor (solenoid) were bad it seems that the key in the 5th door and the remote unlock wouldn't work either.

When one of our remotes started to go bad it quit opening first and then quit locking the car. I think this is because the problem is with the button switches. They get some green corrosion around them and although you can take the circuit board out of the case, the switches don't seem servicable. I tried cleaning, new battery, reprograming, nothing worked.

Sounds like if you were down to only one remote you may have to get another one. Yeah, I know, all this isn't much help.

Sounds to me like the 5th lock is sticky or the motor is toast.

Thank you dosbricks and Matt for your advice. I guess I will replace the 5th lock and learn to live without a remote and save the money.
