Check out IPD's web site. It depends on how much you're willing to spend on this car, but you can do some pretty awesome things to it.
In particular, I can recommend the IPD HD turbo control valve. I put one in mine, and once the car re-learned everything, it feels like a rocket.

The best start to adding performance parts is a good Stage 0. You can start putting aftermarket parts on, but usually they'll put more strain on the factory parts that have almost 15 years of use. Replacing plugs, wires, vacuum lines, PCV etc, first will make it better in the long run. Once you're happy with the Stage 0 that you're at, the IPD HD TCV is a great choice. The first mods I did after Stage 0 were K&N, IPD HD TCV, adjusted waste gate, CBV block off with Forge DP BOV, and IPD boost gauge kit. Overnight, it changed my XC from average wagon to snappy boosted monster.

as far as your cosmetic upgrades, what are you looking for is really the direction your going to go.
are you looking for classy volvo.
trying to spice it up but not go overboard?
remember you dont drive a car out of fast and furious so no underglow, unless you really wanna rock it. lol.
There is alot you can do, change the grille either with black plasti dip, or buying a new one from IPD or elsewhere.
spraying your corner lights orange.
lowering springs.
how far are you wanting to go. and remember, DIY and Junk Yards, are your friends when working with a volvo.
the dealership will drain your wallet fast.

IPD only sells it for the 98+ cars. Not sure about the turbo set up on the 850s, but I know the 98 S/V series is pretty darn close to the 97 and older cars. 99 was the big change with the ETM and what not, I'm not sure why the wouldn't work for the 850.

Well, I got curious and found out why the HD TCV doesn't work on the 850s. S/V series cars have an electronic sensor that detects boost pressure and opens the wastegate accordingly. The 850s have a boost solonoid and no electrical connector to the boost valve. Sorry.

Is this the same as the boost controll?zhenya wrote:This Turbo Control Valve is only available for '98 cars and up, right, ie. not for the 850's?
if so, then yes you can put one on a turbo 850.

Odd, because I found a post over at Volvospeed (don't have the link now) from Lucky at IPD when he was first releasing this product in summer of '08. Someone there asked the same question, and he said that it was just a matter of a minor change to make it work with the 850 and that he'd be releasing it soon. Obviously he hasn't, so...lienmarine wrote:Well, I got curious and found out why the HD TCV doesn't work on the 850s. Ok, so would this be the part that the 850's use? http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-850/Engine/ ... -173-5550/lienmarine wrote:Well, I got curious and found out why the HD TCV doesn't work on the 850s.
