I just bought a 2001 s60 base model (well took to help guy pay balance on roof we did for him) with 205,000 miles.
Car looks beautiful inside and out!!! So I thought hey, must be well taken care of, Does have emission service light on took to Autozone for codes (replaced gas cap) getting ready to do o2 sensors. Has anyone used or know if universal 02 sensors ( 4 wire heated butt type) work on Volvo's?
Also, a couple times a week when starting the car it idles really, really rough, turn it off, start it and does it again usually on the 4-6 start attempt it will start normally. Any thoughts (ignition coil, 02 sensor,) replaced plugs, did it with old plugs and new, also cleaned MAF sensor, throttle body, & new gasket on TB.
Thank You.
Universal oxygen sensors, do they work well?

If you get something like a Bosch universal than the quality of the sensor itself is consistent with those Bosch supplied as OEM. However, the universals require that you crimp or solder a stainless steel wire to your original connector to complete the replacement. AS a result, I have found it extremely tough to get a good, reliable connection using universals. My advice would be to try and get an OEM sensor thru one of the mail-order outfits if you are looking to save a bit. Higher price than the universals but it will work better over the long haul.

I had the exact same experience, definetely go OEM on this and save yourself the hassle. You can sometimes find them for cheaper than FCP or others at Bosch's own website, or Amazon.I have found it extremely tough to get a good, reliable connection using universals. Bosch has a universal 02 sensor, I am going to try this instead of a generic universal sensor.
Let you know how it works.
Thanks
