Has anyone else had this read out,It comes on every so often, about once a week, and when it does , I can hear a sound like
a clock in the dash. The alarm seems to work properly.Any ideas as to what has to be done to service an alarm system??

Check the fuse for the alarm module first. I don't recall which one it is specifically, but it may be located in the panel underneath the steering column. (On many S60's it is) Your owners manual will show you which one it is. If the fuse is good more than likely the module is failing. Lock the doors with the windows rolled down and pull the driver's lock pin to see what happens. You might have the car scanned for DTC codes before you replace the module, but usually the alarm message is a sign the module is going south. Search the forum here and you'll find a really good write up on replacing the module. It's on an S80 but yours will be nearly identical.

i know that s80's have a common problem of the alarm's battery exploding all over the alarm's inner circuit board. Some still work, some die...in your case, you might try fixing it since the alarm still works.
