Hi,
I have been searching and can't find anything as to how to fix this issue. My mechanic mentioned something about the location being under the hood for this year, but not sure if that is true. If anyone can help, that would be awesome!

I believe he is correct. Under the hood center of fire wall if I recall correctly looking at another post quite sometime ago. Hope not sending you to the wrong area though.

Is it a big deal if not replaced, I don't mind not replacing it if it does not cause any other issues? That part is quite pricey. I am just wondering if it is a simple install for me to do. Also, is it a sensor or siren that needs to be replaced?

I replaced an alarm module on our 2008 C70 because it was draining our battery overnight. Passenger side under the hood near windshield under plastic cover. Was easy to replace and not expensive as I recall. Fixed the battery drain issue, can't remember now if it triggered any code prior to the replacement.

Thanks, glad you posted this. Will tackle it if and when it goes out on our 08 C30.

'08 C70 here. My info center displayed "alarm system service required" 2 weeks ago. This past week battery has been dead in the morning when I go to start it. It was so dead that when I hooked charger to it the alarm started going off. Removed fuse number 56 in passenger side floor board fuse panel. That killed alarm siren. Also the key fob unlock/lock as well but oh well. Charged battery. Dead again in a day or two. Must be the alarm system from what I'm deducing that is causing the parasitic drain on the battery.

Here's the process to fix this, with lots of photos - tedious, but easy to DIY

1982 240DL: Drove it 32 years and 1.5 million miles (sold, even still had mint leather!)
2001 v70 2.4T: The most expensive $1500 car I ever bought ("Volvo Turbo" - what an oxymoron!) (sold)
2004 v70: Far less fatally-flawed v70 - It served well (sold)
2010 v50: Smaller, slightly sportier wagon. Its got a spoiler, so I upgraded with sway bars!

So let me ask you this Packetfire.... If I were to just remove the alarm siren, module, and box assembly entirely would that affect the car starting or anything like that? Just unhook the whole thing, pull the whole box out, and then put the cowling back on and roll with no alarm so to speak...packetfire wrote: ↑03 Nov 2024, 17:04 Here's the process to fix this, with lots of photos - tedious, but easy to DIY

There have been reports of a removal of the siren module somehow impacting the sunroof and central locking functions of the UEM, but I doubt these reports, as the siren module is just that - a siren, nothing more. When you start the car, you will have "Alarm System Service Required", and you SHOULD have no other issues, as a dead battery in one of these things is the same thing as removing it. The circuit runs off its own battery when the car is off to prevent someone from cutting power at the battery and towing away the car, for example.
But I would not throw the siren module away, just in case. It is small, and you have room for it.
