C70 Transmission Problem

Post by ArkieC70 »

My 2001 C70 transmission has a shifting problem.....after i drive it for about 30 mins, it acts like it does not want to shift between gears. whn slowing down it downshifts rather sharply. When taking off it seems to get stuck between gears (meaning it starts to up shift but takes a couple seconds to finish). When i stop and then restart the car after a few mins and put it from park to drive, it takes a couple seconds to engage and then "jerks" into gear. This tends to only happen when i do a lot of city driving or short trips (around 30 miles). I have taken longer trips (7 hours) and it never did it. I checked the fluid level and its good with bright red color. the car has 130k miles. The top engine mount looks like it was replaced recently and have read some of the other posts that suggestion changing bottom mounts. The engine does have vibrations at idle and when stopped in drive. Any suggestions as the closest Volvo dealer is an hour and half away?

Are any of the lights on on the panel? (flashing/solid up arrow, check engine)

When it happens, there are no lights on. The check engine light has come on before, but not in relation to the transmission problem. The light did come on today after the problem had been occurring for a while.

Call a dealer and ask if they show a software update for it. Many 2001's have not had the software update done ( :!: ), and it will solve most, if not all of those problems, as well as disabling the dropping into neutral at a stop. With any luck, you can still save it!

i bought the car in january with 120k and it now has 130k and it just started acting up. I had it serviced when i bought it and once again since then and had them to run a diagnostic each time and it came up clean.

did they do a transmission flush? Where they attach the pump to it? As far as i've read that's TERRIBLE for the transmissions
