are there anythings to look out for here other than discharging the sytem before replacing a hose? Would like to do the labor myself then take and have charged
Any insight here would be great.....

obviously after the hose is changed have the system evacuated to get any crap out of it (getting airborne contaminants in it sometimes can be fatal to the system)
How's your evaporator? are you sure it's just the hose that is messed up?

had it checked out by a shop and they told me the bottom hose was leaking is there something else I should be replacing since I am doing a hose?

Just get that hose replaced as well as the top, if your a/c system still leaks (after hose replacement, evacuation, and being recharged with R-134A) then your problem is most likely your evaporator. It would also be a good idea to change your cabin air filter if your car has one, these are designed to be replaced every 30-40k or so I believe.
