If you've got your own voltmeter, try a parasitic drain test - this is for a 240, but should help you out a lot:

What voltage is the battery at before you jump it? I have seen batteries with problems holding a charge under LOAD due to bad cells.

Check the body to battery and engine to body earths along with the tailgate switch either may be your problem
I'd opt for an earth fault

Tailgate switch or you call it a trunk switch it turns the boot light on or off it might be jammed on

Make sure the posts contact the terminals properly. I've had the same symptoms as you've listed. Make sure to use a voltmeter to check the connecting clamps themselves instead of the battery posts.
