Hi All,
I'm a new owner of volvo v50 2.0D SE 2005. I have a strange bearing like noise coming from passenger side in front of the car. I went to a garage and they advised me to fit a new bearing, charged 184 pounds but the noise is still there.
The noise was coming only when turnig left on the speed above 25 mph, no noise when turning right or going straight (you can hear it when you turn the driving wheel just a little bit to the left doesn't matter which gear, even on neutral. There is no noise when making the U-turn or on low speed).
In another garage I was advised to change the tyres and do the tracking. I've change all 4 tyres and the tracking was done and noise still persist but now I can hear it even when I'm driving straight and turning slightly left. There is no noise when turning right.
If you have any suggestion please please advise as this thing is drivig me mad.
Thanks a lot
Raf

Its time to get it up on a lift with a qualified mechanic. If you have a metallic noise that comes only when rolling and not heard in some load conditions you are right to check out the bearings.
A good mechanic can put it up on a lift while its in gear and get under it (if they can't find it normally). Some like to put it on the rolling road (dyno) and see if they can reproduce the noise. You have bearings in the transmission and the mechanic will check them for noise as well. Some CV shafts are supported by a bearing tht can fail as well.
I have seen it be anything from a replaced bearing that was bad to some walnut shells stuck near the rotor by a squirrel. Best to pay someone a few dollars to diagnose it properly.
If I had to guess I would say its the CV shaft bearing or one of the wheel hub bearings - and its going to fail soon.
