someone broke into my car apparently they needed an ashtray to remove it they jammed the shifter out or the park position. now it is very hard to move and doesnt really click into d or r or p. is this easy to replace. the car is a 98 v70.

You may want to pull the center console and determine what parts are damaged; could be the shifter, the lock or something just jammed in the way. I've seen a few shifters for sale on eBay and it probably isn't difficult to replace.

I'm thinking there may have been some serious damage done here. Take a look at the engine bay end of the shift cable and see if seem loose or if it is still tight.
