Shock absorber installation

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Shock absorber installation

Post by jwbehm »

Have a clunking noise when left front wheel hits bump on freeway. I researched the cause and received a thread that suggested changing the washer to a thinner washer may fix the problem. I did this and the clunking noise went away. I included three pictures showing the clearance (slack) on the two front shocks. The left (driver side) picture shows no clearance once washer replaced with thinner washer. The right side (passenger side) picture shows the clearance (slack) with the original washer in place. The third picture shows the original washer (removed). The original washer is threaded and acts as a locking washer. The replacement washer is not threaded. Not sure if that will be a problem.
