S60 MPG

Post by igel513 »

I have read a lot of posting from members who claim to be getting 26 or more mpg on their cars.
My 03 S60 T5 shows on the message board it does only 18 mpg. I did a fill up to fill up mpg calculation
and was about 22mpg. The engine by the way is a 5434 T3. What do I have to do to improve my mpg.
I have done a recent tune up (plugs, air/fuel filter, change fluids) so what do I have to check/change
to get better mileage?

Stock plugs, stock air filter, clean syntetic oil and trans fluid and a combustion cleaning bring most of the S60's I deal with up in mileage.

The less agressive you drive the better it does. Mileage went down with a K&N filter. The change to synthetic in the trans made a nice difference in both power and mpg.

Be sure that you have the right tire pressure. This can have a significant impact on MPG.

Thanks for your responses. Despite all the issues, I'm still enjoying my car and have found out
how boring my 97 Toyota Avalon is. I used to love the Avalon's performance especially when the
ECT is on. When I got the S60, boy was I in for a big surprise especially so when the turbo kicks in.
But Volvo could do a better job by making their emission and electrical system not to complex
and more reliable. Now the only thing I enjoy about the Avalon is that it's been fully paid since '02
and has no problems at all.
