AC compressor valve location

Hey all,

I've got a 2001 v70 2.4t that I need to recharge the AC on. Or at least I hope that solves the problem. I've read a few of the posts talking about getting the recharge kit from an auto parts store and I think I'd like to give it a try. I'm not a total novice but I'm no expert either. My question is.. how do I find the low end valve on the compressor. From what I read it should be on the passenger side close to the front of the car? Once I find it is the valve in use or capped? The auto zone guy said turn the car on crank up the ac and hook up the to gage/hose and the can. I guess what I'm also asking is is the proper spot I'm looking for in use. Do I have to disconnect something or is it truly hook it up and go.

I was just complaining about that today in my V70 R trip report topic. The upfront, helpful, obvious one right up by the headlight -- it even has some instructions on a sticker next to it -- isn't the one to use . It's the high port. You're right in asking where the low port is.

Andrew describes the low port location in that topic: There is a low pressure port between the engine and the power steering container/coolant container.

Sounds like it's in the same spot as in 850s, which would make sense, because they all have the fundamentally similar inline-5 engine.

I'm going to get to that in the next couple of days. In the meantime, here's a How to fit an R134a AC recharge kit or guage onto the port I just whipped up.

On an 03 S60, the valve is under the power steering reservoir. Lift it up and valve is there. Unscrew the cap and install your recharge kit. The engine should be running w/ AC on. Open the valve from the can and invert it. AC should suck the 134 into the system.
