Hi All,
I have a 1998 V70 non turbo that the serpentine belt broke on. I bought and installed a new one using the only route I could get the belt to fit. I was difficult to get the belt on and now I realize that it may have been routed in correctly. The belt route I used was 1 crank to 2 AC to 3 alternator to 4 idler to 5 power steering then back to 1The car started fine but when the AC tried to run it kind of started then ground to a stop or overloaded and shut down.I looks like I should have used a different route for the belt as follows 1 crank to 2 AC to 3 idler to 4 alternator to 5 power steering then back to 1. The belt now will fit at all in the first route. Did I buy the wrong belt? But most importantly. Where should I start with the AC? Fuses are good in the fuse box.
Thank you in advance for any responses, we are in high 90s and 100s (F) and only one of the windows still works.
Thx

The belt routing should be on a decal on the radiator supporrt (right in front of you)

if you routed the belt wrong and the AC compressor was slipping because of this, is possible that the compressor is toast.
A new belt should fit tight at installation.
Post in the 850 forum for the belt diagram and you'll get more help. This is the P2 forum, '01-'07 V70/S60

There are two versions and it depends on which belt you have. The later version with the longer belt is preferred.

Is the compressor still spinning when the car is running?
Might be a coincidence, but check the gap and shim, if necessary. This is for a S60, but it's the same principle:

Just for future reference, maybe this will help:

I read on another post to disconnect the positive to the battery to reset an overload relay or switch. That worked now the clutch is engaging but it is not blowing cold so I think the compressor may be damaged. Is there a good post on how to charge the air system. I could only find one connection point right above the compressor. Is there a high and a low?

Only a low side port which is above the compressor behind the (US) passenger's side headlight - more or less next to the windshield washer fluid tank.could only find one connection point right above the compressor. Is there a high and a low?
